Ananda vs ThinkUp: Your Voice or Your Story?
ThinkUp lets you record affirmations in your own voice. Ananda writes them from your own story. Here's how the two affirmation apps compare and who each suits.
ThinkUp and Ananda both start from the same insight: affirmations work better when they feel personal. They just make them personal in different ways.
- ThinkUp makes the voice personal. You record affirmations yourself and play them back over music.
- Ananda makes the words personal. AI writes affirmations from your own accomplishments and challenges.
Ananda is our app. Details about ThinkUp come from its App Store listing.

Where ThinkUp is better
Hearing yourself
There’s a real case for self-recorded affirmations. Hearing your own voice say something kind can feel surprisingly intimate. ThinkUp is built entirely around this, with background music and playback controls.
Apple Watch and Health
ThinkUp logs practice time to Apple Health as Mindful Minutes and has an Apple Watch app. Ananda has neither.
A lifetime option
If you know you’ll use it for years, ThinkUp sells a one-time lifetime plan, which Ananda doesn’t.
Where Ananda is better
You don’t have to write anything
ThinkUp is personal if you know what to say. Many people open an affirmation app precisely because they don’t, especially after a breakup, a layoff or a loss. Ananda asks about what you’ve done and what you’re facing, then does the writing. Its affirmations use your real achievements as evidence, which makes them easier to believe (see How to Write Personalized Affirmations).
Languages
ThinkUp is English only. Ananda supports 70 languages, in native script.
A generous first experience
Ananda’s free version gives you seven complete affirmations written for you, plus the widget, read-aloud and reminders.
Combine them
This works well: generate a set in Ananda, pick the two or three that hit hardest, and record them in your own voice, in ThinkUp or with your phone’s voice recorder. You get personalized words and your own voice. Our guide to mirror work explains why saying affirmations aloud helps.
Who should choose which?
Choose ThinkUp if you already know your affirmations and love the idea of hearing them in your own voice.
Choose Ananda if you want affirmations written for you, from your real life, in your own language.
